Our Story

How we met:
Nady and I first met as small group leaders at a Christian camp for high-school students, however, it wasn’t until two years later at another church retreat that our courtship began soon after. We often reminisce about our time as small group leaders and joke about how we were both there, but weren’t necessarily friends; we only had a lot of mutual friends then…we were more like acquaintances.
Eventually through God’s timing, a friend of mine convinced me to go to a church retreat she was leading worship at. Coincidentally, Nady was also a part of that same worship band (Nady is a violinist and pretty much can play any instrument you ask him to). Soon after that church retreat weekend, 2 years of being acquaintances turned into being friends…which turned into courtship…and somehow we fell in love.

How he asked:
Nady lives in Detroit and I was visiting him from my hometown in Houston for Easter weekend. I was feeling ill with a cold earlier that week and was almost going to cancel my flight to Detroit. Nady was very insistent that I get on that plane. Little did I know that getting on that plane would literally change my life forever.

My plane arrived on a Wednesday evening in Detroit 15 minutes earlier than expected. Since our courtship was long distance and I often would fly to Detroit, I was expecting the usual text message I would get from Nady that he arrived right outside baggage claim and would be waiting for me in his car. That night, I didn’t receive his text and assumed it was because my flight had arrived early.

I got off the plane and made my way toward baggage claim. To my surprise I noticed Nady was waiting for me at the bottom of the escalators leading toward baggage claim rather than outside in his car. I didn’t think twice about it and greeted him as usual, exhausted from the trip and hoping to get some rest very soon.

While walking toward the crowded baggage claim, I noticed a random guy video recording us with his smartphone. I asked Nady why he was doing that and Nady dismissed it. Exhausted I just wanted to get my baggage and sleep. What I didn’t know at the time was that the entire baggage claim was taping us with their smartphones because they could see what I couldn’t; and that was three cameras with two camera men setup with a string quartet positioned for a very a romantic serenade and proposal. I was oblivious to it all.

Still in my own world, I began to hear a string quartet playing in the corner of the baggage claim. Nady suggested we get closer and check them out. As we got closer, I noticed they looked a lot like his own string quartet he played with on a regular basis.

As I began to notice my surroundings, I quickly caught a glimpse of a video camera stand set right in front of the string quartet. Becoming even more suspicious, I began to ask Nady what was going on, but he kept dismissing me. I began to catch on and quickly turned around to take one good look at my surroundings to find two other cameras with their own camera men and a baggage claim full of spectators armed with their smartphones video recording my every moment. I really couldn’t believe what was happening. Before I knew it, Nady grabbed his guitar from behind the string quartet and began to serenade me with a Christian worship song that has meant so much to us called “All Things New” by Elevation Worship. I couldn’t believe what was happening. God was really making “All Things New” through this relationship.

One thing led to the next and before I knew it, Nady was on one knee asking for my hand in marriage with a beautiful diamond ring. It was like a scene straight out of a movie except I couldn’t have written that script any better. I said YES!
